Income tax return preparation support

Short answer

We prepare income tax return workpapers for companies, trusts and individuals from books we already reconcile: company tax at the 25% or 30% rate, trust distributions, and personal returns including directors and sole traders, only once your TPB-registered agent has signed a written supervision agreement with us. That agent then reviews and lodges the return.

One set of books, one draft return

Your company, trust or individual return draws on the same reconciled ledger your monthly close already produces: revenue, expenses, asset schedules and any trust distribution resolutions. We assemble that into a draft return and hand it to your appointed tax agent with enough time to review before the lodgment date, not the week before it.

Company tax rates that decide the calculation

A base rate entity, meaning aggregated turnover under A$50 million with no more than 80% passive income, pays company tax at 25%. A company that does not meet that test pays the full 30% rate. Getting the classification right at the workpaper stage avoids a rework later.

Individual and trust timing

A self-preparing individual's return is due by 31 October. Lodging through your TPB-registered agent by that date can give you a later lodgment-program deadline, commonly 15 May the following year. The Australian financial year runs 1 July to 30 June, and Fringe Benefits Tax runs on its own year, 1 April to 31 March, at a 47% rate, which we track separately from the income year so nothing gets mixed up.

The supervision arrangement

Preparing and lodging a tax return for a fee is a tax agent service under the Tax Agent Services Act. We prepare; your TPB-registered agent reviews the position and lodges it, but only once a written supervision agreement between us is signed. We are never the one who signs or transmits the return.

Records that back the return

The ATO expects substantiation, not just a filed number: invoices, bank statements, asset registers and any trust resolutions behind the figures in the return, kept for the period the ATO requires. Because we build the return from the same ledger used for quarterly BAS and payroll reporting, the numbers already reconcile to what has been lodged during the year, so nothing needs to be re-explained at tax time. Where a trust distribution resolution is required before 30 June, we flag the deadline early rather than leaving it for the return itself.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Income tax return preparation support

Who actually lodges my company or individual return?

Your TPB-registered agent, under a written supervision agreement signed with us before any work starts.

Which company tax rate applies to my business?

25% for a base rate entity (aggregated turnover under A$50 million, no more than 80% passive income), 30% for other companies. We flag which one applies as part of the workpaper.

What is the deadline if I lodge my own return?

31 October for a self-preparer. Lodging through your TPB-registered agent by that date can give you a later lodgment-program deadline.

Do you prepare trust returns too?

Yes, including the distribution workpapers a trust return depends on, built from the same reconciled books.

What is not included when you prepare our income tax workpapers?

Tax planning advice and the lodgement itself sit outside preparation support. We assemble the schedules your registered agent needs to complete and lodge the return under their own review.

Do you handle trusts as well as companies?

Yes, we prepare workpapers for companies, trusts and individuals, including trust distribution resolutions and minutes support.

Who lodges the return?

A tax agent under a documented supervision arrangement reviews and lodges the return we prepare.

How is income tax return preparation support priced?

Pricing for income tax return preparation support depends on your transaction volume, the software you use, and how much cleanup is needed before ongoing work starts. Current ranges are published on the pricing page, and your exact fee is confirmed in writing before anything begins.

What software works with income tax return preparation support?

Income tax return preparation support runs inside Xero or MYOB, whichever you already use. If you are not yet set up in either, we can configure a file in your name so you keep ownership of it once the engagement is under way.
