Books ready before the auditor shows up

Audit and compliance support

Short answer

Finbryn prepares the reconciliations, schedules and evidence an Australian auditor, an ACNC reviewer or a grant body expects on day one, so review rounds run faster with fewer follow-up requests. Our accounting team builds the file to Australian Accounting Standards. The audit itself is performed by the registered company auditor or ACNC-approved reviewer you engage directly.

What audit support covers here

Most fieldwork delays in Australia trace back to the same gap: a bank account not reconciled since the last STP pay run, a fixed-asset register nobody rolled forward, or a related-party loan with no note attached. We close that gap before your auditor opens the file. Every account is reconciled, every schedule ties to the trial balance, and the documentation is organised against a typical request list rather than assembled the week fieldwork starts.

The Australian financial year runs 1 July to 30 June, and we build the year-end file to that calendar, not a calendar-year close forced into an AASB-reporting shape.

What stays with your registered auditor

We do not perform the audit, review or ACNC assurance engagement, and we form no opinion on the financial report. Under the Corporations Act, that sits with an ASIC-registered company auditor working to the Australian Auditing Standards issued by the AUASB. Our role stops at preparation: books that reconcile, schedules that trace, and a file organised the way a reviewer actually reads one. A charity's Annual Information Statement obligations to the ACNC sit with the charity and its board; we prepare the numbers behind it.

Grants, super and payroll evidence

Where a state or federal grant, or an ACNC-registered charity's funder, asks for an acquittal, we track the award separately from other income and code spending against the approved budget as it happens. Where Single Touch Payroll evidence matters to a controls review, we pull the STP Phase 2 record and the compulsory super (SG) approval trail rather than reconstructing them after the fact.

Every deliverable passes a senior review before it reaches you.

Getting started

Most Australian businesses see the clearest benefit bringing us in two to three months before fieldwork or an ACNC review, so open items surface while there is still time to fix them. See pricing for how audit-readiness engagements are scoped, and our grant compliance support if a government grant or charity acquittal is behind the request.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Audit and compliance support

Do you perform the audit or sign the auditor's report?

No. We prepare the reconciliations, schedules and documentation your audit relies on. The audit or review itself, and the opinion on your financial report, comes from an ASIC-registered company auditor or ACNC-approved reviewer you engage separately.

Do you work to Australian Accounting Standards?

Yes. We build the trial balance and supporting schedules to the AASB standards your entity reports under, mapped to your existing chart of accounts rather than one we impose.

Can you help a charity prepare for its ACNC Annual Information Statement or a funder review?

Yes. We track grant income separately from other revenue, code spending against the approved budget, and organise the documentation an ACNC reviewer or funder typically asks for.

How early should we start before fieldwork?

Two to three months ahead of fieldwork gives the most room to reconcile accounts, roll forward schedules and clear open items before the auditor's clock starts.

Will you liaise directly with our auditor during fieldwork?

We track the request list, gather documentation and answer factual follow-up questions. Anything that calls for management judgement goes back to you before it reaches the auditor.

What is not included in audit and compliance support?

We prepare reconciliations, schedules and evidence packs and respond to routine follow-up questions. We do not perform the audit itself, and we do not represent your business as your registered agent in a dispute with a regulator.

Who signs off on the schedules you prepare?

Your own management or board signs off before anything goes to the auditor or reviewer, and any BAS-related figure inside the pack is confirmed with your TPB-registered agent under our standing supervision arrangement.

How far ahead of an audit or review should we start?

Six to eight weeks before the auditor's fieldwork date gives enough time to clear open items and build clean working papers. Starting the week the auditor arrives usually means slower turnaround and more follow-up requests.

What happens to the audit files once the engagement finishes?

The full set of working papers, reconciliations and evidence stays in your own file storage and accounting software. Nothing is retained on a system you cannot access once the audit season ends.
