Set up right, connected right

Software and migrations

Short answer

Finbryn sets up, cleans up and migrates the accounting software Australian businesses run on: Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online, plus A2X, Dext, Stripe and Shopify. You keep the file and the login. The configuration and migration work is done with every transaction GST-coded from day one.

Why the software has to be right before the GST coding starts

Most bookkeeping problems in Australia trace back to a file that was never set up for GST properly, a chart of accounts copied from a template business, or a migration from spreadsheets where the GST tax codes never made the jump. None of that gets fixed by working harder inside the existing file. It gets fixed by rebuilding the structure before the next quarter's transactions land in it.

Finbryn handles that work. We build new files, clean up existing ones, migrate data between platforms, and connect the integrations that keep GST, superannuation and marketplace data flowing without manual re-entry.

What we work in

  • Xero and MYOB, the two platforms most Australian small businesses run on
  • QuickBooks Online, for businesses that started there or prefer it
  • NetSuite, for groups that have outgrown small-business software
  • A2X, Dext, Stripe and Shopify, connected so settlement and receipt data reaches the books automatically

You keep the Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online file in your own name, on your own subscription. If you move on, you leave with your data and your login.

Built around the BAS cycle, not against it

Australia's income year runs 1 July to 30 June, and most GST-registered businesses lodge quarterly. Every migration and setup maps the chart of accounts to the correct GST tax codes (taxable, GST-free, input-taxed) from the first transaction, so quarterly BAS preparation is a review, not a rebuild. A business approaching the A$75,000 GST turnover threshold gets flagged well before the 21-day registration clock starts.

Who does what

We prepare and reconcile the books. Where a setup touches BAS or income-tax lodgement itself, that work is prepared by our team and lodged by a registered agent under a supervision arrangement, consistent with Tax Practitioners Board rules on outsourced work. A named pod stays on the account, and any change to how something is coded comes with a short recorded handover memo rather than a surprise on next quarter's numbers. See monthly bookkeeping for the ongoing work once a migration is finished, or book a call to talk through your current file.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Software and migrations

Do I own the Xero or MYOB file once you set it up?

Yes. The file is created in your own name on your own subscription, and we work inside it under access you grant and can revoke at any time.

Will the GST codes be set up correctly from the start?

Yes. We map the chart of accounts to the correct GST tax codes, taxable, GST-free or input-taxed, during setup, so quarterly BAS preparation starts from clean data rather than a reconstruction.

Can you migrate from MYOB to Xero, or the other way?

Yes, including chart of accounts mapping, historical transactions and open balances, reconciled against your last reports from the old platform before it is retired.

Do you lodge the BAS once the software is set up?

No. We prepare the figures. Lodgement is handled by a registered agent under a supervision arrangement, or by your own appointed adviser.

What is not included in a software migration?

We do not choose your software vendor for you or negotiate its pricing. We set up, migrate and clean the file inside the platform you decide on; the purchase decision and licence remain in your name.

Who signs up for the software subscription?

You do. Every platform we set up, whether Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, A2X or Dext, runs under your own business's subscription and login, so you keep full ownership and control after the migration.

How long does a typical migration take?

A straightforward single-entity migration usually runs two to four weeks once source access is granted. Multi-entity or high-transaction-volume migrations take longer, scoped and timed once we have seen the current file.

How is a migration priced?

As a fixed-scope project quoted once we understand the source platform, transaction history and any integrations involved, rather than an hourly or ongoing rate for a one-off piece of work.
