The accounting detail changes by sector. So does our approach.
A marketplace seller, a property business and a consultancy each need different things from their books.
Businesses across different UK sectors keep their books in different ways: online sellers need marketplace payouts split into sales, fees and VAT, agencies need project-level margins, and property businesses need each unit tracked separately. These pages set out how Finbryn handles the details that matter for a given sector, once we publish coverage for it in the UK.
- Ecommerce (Amazon and Shopify)Bookkeeping for online sellers on Amazon, Shopify, Etsy and their own storefronts, built around clean payout and sales tax data.
- SaaSBookkeeping and reporting for subscription software businesses tracking recurring revenue, deferred revenue and burn.
- Real estate and property managementBookkeeping for property owners and managers tracking income, expenses and reserves at the level of each individual property.
- Construction and job costingBookkeeping for contractors and builders who need cost and profitability tracked by job, not just by month.
- Agencies and consultanciesBookkeeping for marketing agencies, design studios and consulting firms billing clients on retainers and project fees.
- Startups and VC-backed companiesBookkeeping and reporting for early-stage, venture-backed companies watching burn, runway and investor reporting closely.
- HospitalityBookkeeping for hotels, short-term rentals and hospitality operators reconciling booking platform payouts and occupancy-driven revenue.
- Professional servicesBookkeeping for professional service firms such as engineering, architecture and IT consulting billing clients by project or retainer.
What changes sector by sector
Marketplace and ecommerce sellers
Payouts from platforms often arrive as one lump figure that hides sales, fees, refunds and reserves. We split that out before it reaches your profit and loss account.
Agencies and consultancies
Project-level costs and time need tracking against the fee for that project, not just against the business as a whole.
Property and letting businesses
Each unit or property carries its own income and costs, which the ledger needs to reflect separately for an owner to see what any one property is actually doing.
Multi-entity groups
Where a group runs several UK companies, intercompany balances and consolidated figures need the same monthly discipline as any single entity.
Questions
Questions about industry coverage
Do you cover every industry from day one?
No. We publish detailed sector pages for the UK as we build out coverage, and say plainly on the Services pages where general bookkeeping already applies.
What if my sector is not listed yet?
Book a call regardless. Most of what we describe here applies broadly, and we will tell you if your sector needs something we have not built yet.
Do sector differences change the price?
Sometimes, if the volume of transactions or number of entities differs. The Pricing page and calculator give a starting estimate either way.
Is this only relevant to VAT-registered businesses?
No. Sole traders below the VAT threshold face many of the same sector-specific bookkeeping questions as larger companies, just at a smaller scale.
Do you need prior experience in my exact sub-sector before starting?
We work from your existing chart of accounts and software setup rather than requiring deep prior exposure to your specific niche before starting, though a sector with distinct rules, such as construction or property, benefits from the sector-specific approach we describe on that industry's page.
How do you stay current on sector-specific rules like the Construction Industry Scheme or tenant deposit protection?
We track statutory changes relevant to the sectors we cover, such as Construction Industry Scheme deduction rates or deposit protection scheme requirements, and update our processes when a rule changes, rather than relying on a setup built once and never revisited as regulation moves.
