Bookkeeping

Sage bookkeeping

Short answer

Ongoing bookkeeping inside Sage 50 for Canadian businesses already running on the platform. Finbryn codes transactions, reconciles bank and card accounts, tracks GST and HST on their own line, and closes each month with reports your T2 preparer can use directly.

Sage 50, kept current

Sage 50 is still common among established Canadian small businesses, particularly ones that adopted it before QuickBooks Online or Xero became the default choice. We work inside your existing Sage 50 file rather than pushing a migration you do not need.

Monthly coding and reconciliation

Each period, transactions are coded to your chart of accounts, and every bank, credit card and payment-processor account is reconciled to Sage 50's own bank reconciliation module. GST and HST collected and paid are tracked on their own accounts, matching how the return is structured.

Month-end close

Where your business runs on accrual, we post accruals and prepaid adjustments before closing the period, so the profit and loss statement and balance sheet reflect what was earned and owed, not only what cleared the bank. Standard Sage 50 reports are delivered on the schedule you set.

Should you move off Sage 50?

Sometimes. If your business has outgrown Sage 50's reporting or multi-user limits, we will say so plainly and can migrate the chart of accounts, transaction history and open balances into QuickBooks Online or Xero without losing anything your preparer needs.

Delivery

Every file is reviewed by a senior principal before it reaches you, with billing terms set out in your engagement letter. See chart of accounts design or pricing for the published rate.

Payroll and other connected modules

Where Sage 50's payroll or job-costing modules are already in use, we work inside them rather than duplicating the data elsewhere, so the figures that reach your profit and loss statement match what payroll actually posted.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Sage bookkeeping

Do you work inside our existing Sage 50 file?

Yes, we do not require a migration to another platform to take on the bookkeeping.

Can you tell us if we should move off Sage 50?

Yes, honestly, based on whether your reporting or user-access needs have outgrown it, before we start rather than after.

Can you migrate us from Sage 50 to QuickBooks Online or Xero?

Yes, including the chart of accounts, transaction history and open balances.

What exactly is included in sage bookkeeping?

Monthly transaction coding inside your Sage ledger, and bank and card accounts reconciled to Sage each period. This work runs inside Sage or Sage Intacct, whichever your business already has in place, and it rolls into your regular monthly close rather than sitting off to the side as a separate, unreconciled process.

What happens to our sage bookkeeping records if we switch providers?

Everything stays inside your own Sage or Sage Intacct account, so the full history transfers with the subscription, not with Finbryn. You can hand sage bookkeeping to another provider or bring it in-house at any point without losing a reconciliation or having to rebuild the file first.

Do you support Sage Intacct as well as Sage 50 and Sage 100?

Yes. We work across the Sage products a small or mid-size business is likely to run.

Can you migrate us off Sage onto QuickBooks Online or Xero?

Yes, and we will tell you honestly whether that move makes sense given your setup before we start.

How do we get started with sage bookkeeping?

Getting started with sage bookkeeping begins with a short review of your current records and software access. Once that is done we confirm scope and timing in writing, and ongoing work begins on the schedule agreed with you.

What if our records for sage bookkeeping are not up to date?

If your records are behind, we scope a catch-up first so sage bookkeeping starts from a clean, reconciled base. That catch-up is priced and timed separately from the ongoing engagement, so you always know what each part costs.
