What the requirement covers
Companies House identity verification applies to company directors, people with significant control (PSC) and anyone who files on a company's behalf, each under their own individual requirement rather than one company-wide step. It became mandatory for new appointments from 18 November 2025, and existing directors and PSCs have a 12-month transition period ending 17 November 2026 to complete it.
Verifying directly or through an agent
An individual can verify their identity directly with Companies House, using the GOV.UK One Login service and a passport or other accepted document, or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) acting on their behalf. We do not complete the verification ourselves, since that role sits with the individual or an ACSP, but we prepare the document checklist and flag which route fits each officer before the appointment.
Why the deadline matters more than it looks
A company cannot file a confirmation statement or register certain changes, including a new director, once the transition window closes without the relevant individuals being verified. Treating this as a background administrative step rather than tracking it against the filing calendar is how a routine confirmation statement ends up stuck behind an unfinished verification.
What we track
For each officer and PSC, we log verification status, the route chosen and any documents still outstanding, then cross-reference that against the company's own filing deadlines so a lapse shows up before it blocks something else. If a verification attempt is rejected, usually a document mismatch or an expired passport, we help identify the fix and prepare the resubmission.
Where this sits in the wider picture
Identity verification runs alongside, not instead of, the confirmation statement itself, covered in UK company formation and confirmation statements. Northlane Solutions Inc. in the US is the company you contract with. See how it works for the wider onboarding sequence.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Companies House ID verification support
Who exactly needs to complete identity verification?
Company directors, people with significant control and anyone filing on the company's behalf, each individually, not the company as a whole.
Can you complete the verification on our behalf?
No. Verification is completed by the individual directly through GOV.UK One Login, or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. We prepare the checklist and track the deadline around it.
What happens if we miss the transition deadline?
After 17 November 2026, unverified existing directors and PSCs can hold up filings, including a confirmation statement or the registration of a new director, until verification is completed.
What if a verification attempt gets rejected?
Usually a document mismatch or an expired passport. We help trace the specific reason and prepare the resubmission so it does not sit unresolved against a filing deadline.
Does identity verification need repeating for an existing director who has already verified once?
No, once a director or PSC completes verification through Companies House or an authorised agent, it does not need repeating for that role unless their identity document changes materially. A new appointment, however, always triggers its own verification requirement regardless of an existing director's status.
Who has to complete identity verification?
Company directors, people with significant control, and anyone filing on the company's behalf, each under their own verification requirement rather than one company-wide step.
Can you complete the verification for us?
Identity verification is completed by the individual directly, or through an authorised corporate service provider; we prepare the document checklist and track the deadline around it.
