Accounting and Tax-Prep Support for Kuwait City Businesses
Remote service for Kuwait City businesses. Finbryn LLC is a Texas limited liability company.
Finbryn provides remote accounting, tax-preparation support and payroll support for businesses in Kuwait City. The books are built around Kuwait's ownership-based 15% tax, a return due three months and 15 days after period end with an audited pack, four instalments across the following year, and the Zakat and KFAS levies on shareholding companies. We have no office in Kuwait.
Kuwait taxes the foreign share of a business and leaves the Kuwaiti share alone. A flat 15% corporate income tax applies to foreign corporate bodies doing business in Kuwait, directly or through an agent. Companies wholly owned by Kuwaiti or GCC nationals are not subject to it, and GCC companies with foreign ownership are taxed to the extent of the foreign ownership (Worldwide Tax Summaries, reviewed 22 July 2026). A Kuwait City company with mixed owners therefore needs books that can show who owns what, and when.
This page covers the calendar and the paper that goes with it: the return deadline and its supporting documents, the four instalments, the levies on shareholding companies, how foreign ownership works under Kuwaiti law and the minimum tax for large groups. Finbryn is a remote service with no office in Kuwait City. We keep the books, prepare workpapers and leave filing to a credentialed signer where it is required. Facts last checked on 23 October 2026.
The 15% and the ownership split
The 15% rate applies to the profits and capital gains of foreign corporate bodies. The entry states that Kuwait does not impose corporate income tax on companies wholly owned by Kuwaiti nationals, and that a GCC company with foreign ownership is taxed to the extent of that foreign ownership.
The calculation starts from a share register. We maintain it with each holder's nationality or jurisdiction, the percentage held and the effective date of every change, and we allocate profit between taxable and non-taxable shares each period. A change in ownership part-way through the year is then a dated line in a table and not a conversation at filing time. The tax computation and the filing itself belong to your tax adviser or a credentialed signer.
Three months and 15 days, and what travels with the return
The return is due within three months and 15 days of the end of the taxable period. In certain cases a taxpayer can request an extension of up to 60 days, and if one is granted no payment is due until the declaration is filed, when the tax is payable in one lump sum. For a year ending 31 December 2026 the standard date is 15 April 2027.
The return is supported by an audited balance sheet and profit and loss account, a trial balance forming the basis of the accounts, a detailed fixed asset list with additions and disposals, a list of inventory with quantities and values, a list of subcontractors and their latest payments, and copies of current contracts with a statement of income and expenditure for each (Worldwide Tax Summaries, 22 July 2026). We prepare each schedule from the ledger during the year, so the pack is a month-end output.
Four instalments across the next year
Tax is payable in four equal instalments, on the 15th day of the fourth, sixth, ninth and twelfth months following the end of the tax period. Late filing or payment draws a penalty of 1% of the tax liability for every 30 days of delay or part of it. For a year ending 31 December 2026 the dates are 15 April, 15 June, 15 September and 15 December 2027.
Those dates are the useful part for cash planning, because they fall in the months after the year-end and not before it. We carry them in the cash forecast as a fixed schedule as soon as the year's profit is estimated, and we update the amount at each close.
Zakat and the KFAS contribution on shareholding companies
Publicly traded and closed Kuwaiti shareholding companies pay Zakat at 1% of net profit, and all Kuwaiti shareholding companies pay a 1% contribution of net profit to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, calculated from the financial statements after the transfer to the statutory reserve and the offset of carried-forward losses (Worldwide Tax Summaries, 22 July 2026).
Two levies of that kind rest on one profit line, so the books must be able to produce the profit figure before each of them, and the statutory reserve transfer must be posted before the contribution is computed. We keep the sequence in the close checklist. We do not summarise any other Kuwaiti levy on this page.
Foreign ownership: 49% by default, up to 100% with a licence
Article 23 of Law No. 68 of 1980 provides that foreign investors may not own more than 49% of the equity of Kuwaiti companies. Law No. 116 of 2013 on foreign direct investment lets foreign investors hold up to full ownership of Kuwaiti entities in non-restricted sectors, which requires an investment licence from the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (Mondaq, 11 July 2025).
Which route applies decides which tax regime sits over the entity, so it is the first fact in the file. If the structure changes, for example from a 49% holding to a licensed 100% one, the ledger needs a dated ownership record and a clear cut between the periods. We do not advise on licensing and we have no affiliation with the Authority.
The minimum tax for large groups
Decree-Law No. 157 of 2024, released on 30 December 2024, introduced a Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax at a 15% minimum effective rate for multinational groups with consolidated revenue of EUR 750 million or more in at least two of the four preceding years. Its Executive Regulations were issued as Ministerial Resolution No. 55 of 2025 on 30 June 2025. Multinationals subject to it are no longer liable for corporate income tax under Decree No. 3 of 1955, for Zakat under Law No. 46 of 2006, or for certain National Labor Support Tax provisions (Worldwide Tax Summaries, 22 July 2026).
A typical small or mid-sized company will not meet the EUR 750 million revenue test. For a subsidiary of a group that does, the books need to separate the entity's results cleanly and keep intercompany balances reconciled. We do not assess whether a group is in scope.
What we do for Kuwait City companies, and what we do not
The service is remote. We have no office, address or staff in Kuwait City, and nothing on this page implies otherwise. A named contact keeps your books, runs the monthly close and prepares tax workpapers. Payroll support covers the pay-run review, the journals and the accruals; contribution rates and wage-payment rules change and are not summarised here.
We do not audit, sign or file, and we do not represent anyone before the Ministry of Finance Tax Department or conduct tax inspections. An independent auditor audits, and a credentialed signer files. Rates are published on the rates page, and the engagement letter records scope and terms.

Questions
Frequently asked questions: Kuwait City
Does a Kuwaiti-owned company in Kuwait City pay corporate income tax?
Not if it is wholly Kuwaiti-owned. The Worldwide Tax Summaries entry reviewed on 22 July 2026 says Kuwait does not tax companies wholly owned by Kuwaiti nationals, and that a GCC company with foreign ownership is taxed on the foreign share. Kuwaiti shareholding companies also bear Zakat and KFAS contributions, each 1% of net profit.
When is the return due for a year ending 31 December 2026?
Three months and 15 days after period end, which is 15 April 2027, with an extension of up to 60 days available in certain cases. The audited balance sheet and profit and loss account must support it.
How are the four instalments calculated and when are they paid?
Tax is payable in four equal instalments on the 15th day of the fourth, sixth, ninth and twelfth months after period end. For a 31 December 2026 year-end those are 15 April, 15 June, 15 September and 15 December 2027.
Can a foreign investor own 100% of a company in Kuwait?
In non-restricted sectors, with a licence from the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority under Law No. 116 of 2013. Without it, foreign ownership is capped at 49%. We do not advise on or arrange licences.
Do you handle our inspection by the Tax Department?
No. We do not represent clients before the Ministry of Finance Tax Department. We can prepare the supporting schedules from your books for whoever represents you.
Do you have an office in Kuwait City?
No. The service is remote, with no local office and no team on site, and it is contracted through Finbryn LLC.
