Accounting and Tax-Prep Support for Sharjah Businesses

Remote service for Sharjah businesses. Finbryn LLC is a Texas limited liability company.

Short answer

Finbryn provides remote accounting, tax-preparation support and payroll support for businesses in Sharjah. The page is written for the new licensee: a chart of accounts and opening records set up before the first invoice, VAT and corporate tax registrations tracked from day one, and pay-run review once staff are hired. We have no office in Sharjah, and a tax agent registered with the Federal Tax Authority files where representation is required.

Sharjah's licence base is growing mostly through newcomers. The Sharjah Economic Development Department reported that total licences issued and renewed in 2025 rose 7%, that newly issued licences rose 34% and renewals 4%, and that the emirate recorded 84,443 economic establishments (Gulf News, 18 February 2026). A licence is the start of a company's obligations, not the end of them, and the first year's books decide how easy the first tax return is.

This page is a first-year guide for a Sharjah business: what to set up in the books, which UAE registrations and thresholds matter, what the audit rules say about size, and how payroll is checked. Finbryn is a remote service with no office in Sharjah. We keep the books and prepare workpapers. Auditing, signing and filing are outside what we do. Facts last checked on 23 October 2026.

Sharjah's licence base in 2025

The 2025 figures reported by Gulf News put the increase in total licences issued and renewed at 7%, newly issued licences at 34% and renewals at 4%, with 84,443 economic establishments in the emirate. A rise in new licences of that size means a lot of businesses starting from zero at once.

For a finance team the consequence is straightforward. Most of the work in the first twelve months is setup: which bank account carries which activity, what the opening balances are, who owns the company and in what proportions, and which documents will be asked for later. We do that setup first and call it the opening file.

Instant licences and the first-year books

The Sharjah Economic Development Department launched an Instant License service in July 2025 and had issued 1,165 licences through it by the end of the year (Gulf News, 18 February 2026). A licence that is issued instantly can leave the books weeks behind it.

The opening file for a new Sharjah company holds the chart of accounts, a ledger for each bank account and card, an asset register for equipment bought before trading, a record of founder loans or share capital paid in, and a folder for each supplier contract. We reconcile it monthly from the first month, even when the month is quiet. A company that starts reconciling in month seven has to rebuild six months from bank statements, and the first return is only as good as that rebuild.

VAT and corporate tax registrations to track from day one

VAT registration is mandatory once the value of taxable supplies and imports exceeds AED 375,000 in the preceding 12 months, or is expected to in the next 30 days, and voluntary registration is open above AED 187,500 (Federal Tax Authority, checked 29 September 2026). Corporate Tax is charged at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above that (UAE Government portal, checked 29 September 2026).

A company that misses the Federal Tax Authority's registration window for Corporate Tax faces an administrative penalty of AED 10,000. The Authority's waiver initiative can lift it if the first return is filed within seven months of the end of the first tax period. We keep a registration tracker for each client with the date the licence was issued, the date each registration was due and the date it was made, so a deadline is a line in a table and not a memory.

SAIF Zone and free zone books

Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, known as SAIF Zone, describes itself as established since 1995 (SAIF Zone website, checked 23 October 2026). A company licensed in a Sharjah free zone and one licensed on the mainland keep the same accounting records, but the tax position can differ. A Qualifying Free Zone Person is taxed at 0% on its Qualifying Income, and income that is not qualifying falls outside that relief, so it has to be separable in the ledger.

We do not summarise SAIF Zone's own licensing, audit or filing rules, which the zone sets and publishes. We tag revenue by customer and activity from the first invoice, so whichever treatment applies can be shown from the books.

When an audit applies

A taxable person needs audited financial statements by a UAE-licensed auditor where revenue exceeds AED 50 million in a tax period, or where it is a Qualifying Free Zone Person (Worldwide Tax Summaries, reviewed 9 September 2026). Many new Sharjah businesses will be well under the first threshold, but the second depends on status and not on size.

Before choosing a status, a founder should know what an audit would ask of the books: complete bank reconciliations, a fixed asset register with purchase evidence, supplier and customer confirmations and signed contracts for the main revenue lines. We prepare books to that standard from the beginning, and your auditor decides what is needed.

Payroll once the first hire arrives

Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026 has applied since 1 June 2026. Wages are due by the first day of each month for the previous month's work, 85% of total wages due by the deadline is the compliance threshold, and MOHRE can suspend new work permits from the fifth day (tax alert, 26 May 2026).

For a new company, the first hire is the moment payroll stops being a handful of transfers. We review the draft pay run against the employment contract and approved allowances before your bank submits it, post the journal and start the gratuity and leave accruals from the first month. Your bank carries out the submission.

What we do for Sharjah companies, and what we do not

The service is remote. We have no office, address or staff in Sharjah. A named contact keeps your books, runs the monthly close and prepares the corporate tax and VAT workpapers.

We do not audit, sign or file, and we make no claim of affiliation with the Sharjah Economic Development Department, SAIF Zone or any other zone. A tax agent registered with the Federal Tax Authority files and represents where required, and a UAE-licensed auditor performs any audit. Pricing is on the rates page, and terms are set in an engagement letter.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Sharjah

I have just received a Sharjah licence. What should the books look like in month one?

A chart of accounts, a ledger for each bank account and card, an asset register, a record of capital or founder loans and a reconciliation at the end of the month. We call this the opening file and build it before the first invoice.

When do I have to register for VAT?

Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 in the preceding 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days, and voluntary above AED 187,500, per the Federal Tax Authority. We track your rolling twelve-month figure monthly.

What happens if I register late for corporate tax?

The Federal Tax Authority sets an administrative penalty of AED 10,000, and its waiver initiative can lift it if the first return is filed within seven months of the end of the first tax period. A tax agent registered with the Federal Tax Authority files where representation is required.

Does a small Sharjah company need audited accounts?

Statements must be audited by a UAE-licensed auditor where revenue exceeds AED 50 million or the person is a Qualifying Free Zone Person. A small company is often below the revenue test, so status is what decides it.

Do you have an office in Sharjah?

No. The service is remote, with no local office and no team on site, and it is contracted through Finbryn LLC.
