Books ready before the auditor shows up
Audit and compliance support
Finbryn prepares the books, schedules and documentation a US auditor, grant funder or examiner expects to see, so fieldwork moves faster and with fewer follow-up requests. Our accounting team handles reconciliations, PBC lists, working papers and controls documentation. The audit or examination itself is performed by your licensed, independent auditor.

What audit support means at Finbryn
An audit rarely goes wrong because of the transactions themselves. It goes wrong because the schedules behind them are not ready, the PBC list sits half done in the last week, or nobody can explain why a balance moved. We take that preparation off your team's plate.
Our accounting team reconciles every account, builds the supporting schedules an auditor asks for, and organizes documents against the provided-by-client list before fieldwork starts. When the auditor sends review comments, we update the affected schedule and log the change instead of leaving your controller to chase it down between other work.
What stays with a licensed auditor
We do not perform the audit and we do not issue an opinion on your financial statements. Under US GAAS, only a licensed, independent audit firm can do that. Our role stops at preparation: books that reconcile, schedules that tie out, documentation that answers the question before it is asked. You engage the audit firm directly, and we work alongside them.
The same boundary holds for a SOC examination. A licensed audit firm performs the examination and issues the report under AICPA attestation standards; we keep the financial records and evidence behind it current and organized through the examination window.
Reviewed before it reaches you
Northlane Solutions Inc. is the US company you contract with, under a written engagement that covers how your financial data is handled.
Getting started
Most businesses see the clearest benefit starting two to three months before fieldwork, so open items surface and get resolved before the clock is running. If a nonprofit grant or a single audit is behind the request, our grant compliance support tracks funds separately from the start. See pricing for how audit-readiness engagements are scoped.
All services
Audit and compliance support: every service
- Audit-ready booksMonthly and year-end books maintained with the support and schedules an external auditor expects to see on day one, so fieldwork starts without a scramble to reconstruct records.
- PBC list managementThe auditor's provided-by-client request list tracked item by item, with documents gathered, organized and delivered on schedule instead of chased down in the final week.
- Working paper preparationSupporting schedules and reconciliations built the way an auditor expects to see them, cross-referenced to the trial balance, so review comments come back with fewer open questions.
- Internal controls documentationFinancial process controls, such as who approves a payment or reconciles an account, written down and walked through with your team, so an auditor or funder can see how the numbers are actually produced.
- Grant compliance supportGrant funds tracked separately from other revenue, spent against the approved budget, and documented the way a funder or a single-audit reviewer expects to see it.
- SOC readiness bookkeepingFinancial recordkeeping and evidence-gathering support for companies preparing for a service-organization examination, keeping the accounting-side documentation consistent while the technical control work is led by your security team or examiner.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Audit and compliance support
Do you perform audits?
No. We prepare the books, schedules and documentation your audit relies on. The audit itself, and any opinion on your financial statements, comes from a licensed, independent audit firm you engage separately.
How far in advance should we bring you in before an audit?
Two to three months ahead of fieldwork gives the most room to reconcile accounts, build schedules and clear open items before the auditor's clock starts.
Can you work directly with our external auditor during fieldwork?
Yes. We track the PBC list, gather documentation and respond to factual follow-up questions. Anything that calls for management judgment goes back to you before it goes to the auditor.
Is this the same as SOC 2 certification?
No. SOC 2 is an examination performed and reported on by a licensed audit firm under AICPA attestation standards. We support the bookkeeping and evidence-gathering behind that process; we do not issue or hold a SOC 2 report ourselves.
Do you help nonprofits preparing for a single audit?
Yes. Our grant compliance work tracks federal and state awards separately from other revenue and organizes documentation against the funder's terms, which is most of what a single audit reviews.
What software do you need access to for audit and compliance support?
Read or edit access to your general ledger, whether QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite or Sage Intacct, plus whatever shared drive holds source documents such as bank statements, contracts and grant agreements. Access is scoped to what the current request list actually needs, not your whole file by default.
How is audit and compliance support priced?
Work is scoped against the specific request list or engagement, whether a full audit-ready close, a set of working papers, or a single PBC list, and priced against that scope rather than a flat monthly rate. Terms are set out in your engagement letter before work begins.
Can you see the data our external auditor already has access to?
Only what you grant. We work from your books and source documents, and any file we prepare for the auditor is reviewed with you first unless you have asked us to send it directly. Access ends when the engagement or the audit cycle closes.
