Slicing the business without splitting the entity
A business trading across several EU member states from one legal entity often wants to see profit and loss by country, product line or location without the cost of running separate books for each. Finbryn sets up class or location tagging so one set of books answers questions a single profit and loss cannot.
What we build
- A tagging structure that matches how you think about the business, whether by country, property or department
- Every transaction tagged consistently at the point of entry
- Profit and loss by class, location or department produced each month
- A short tagging guide so new transactions get coded correctly the first time
Where this helps a filing
When a VAT return needs to separate sales by member state, or a local partner wants a country-level view for a statutory filing, tagged data answers that faster than manually splitting a single ledger after the fact.
Setting it up once, not per country
We design the tagging structure once, at the level of your legal entity, then apply it consistently as the business adds new EU countries to sell into, rather than rebuilding the tagging scheme every time a new market opens.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Class and location tracking
What is the difference between tagging and a separate set of books?
Tagging splits one set of books into views by country, property or department, without the cost of maintaining several entities.
Does this help with VAT reporting by member state?
It gives your registered local partner a country-level view to work from, though the VAT filing itself still goes through them.
Can tags be changed retroactively if we set them up wrong at first?
Yes, historical transactions can be re-tagged, though we flag how far back that reasonably goes before it becomes its own cleanup project rather than a quick correction to the existing structure. We scope that conversation with you before any retroactive change actually begins.
Does tagging slow down how fast transactions get coded each month?
Once the tag structure is set, coding runs at the same pace; the extra step is mostly upfront, in deciding which dimension each transaction should carry before the monthly cycle actually begins. Once agreed, the structure holds steady rather than being revisited every single month.
What is the difference between class tracking and a separate set of books?
Class or location tracking splits one set of books into views by property, department or line of business, without the cost of maintaining several entities.
Can you set this up on an existing file with history?
Yes. We tag prior transactions where practical so comparisons across periods still hold up.
What if our records for class and location tracking are not up to date?
If your records are behind, we scope a catch-up first so class and location tracking starts from a clean, reconciled base. That catch-up is priced and timed separately from the ongoing engagement, so you always know what each part costs.
Who reviews the work before it reaches us?
Every deliverable under class and location tracking is reviewed by a senior principal before it reaches you. You keep access to the underlying file at every stage, so nothing about the work happens somewhere you cannot see it.
