The question a single-country business never has to ask
Operate in one member state and a forecast is just a forecast. Add a second or third entity and three harder questions show up first: whose cash position actually matters this week, what currency the model should even be built in, and which entity's numbers a lender or an investor is actually going to ask to see. Answering those well is what a fractional CFO is for, sitting on top of books already closed under IFRS for SMEs or the relevant local GAAP, not replacing that close.
From one report to the full seat
Some engagements are one deliverable and nothing more: a 13-week cash forecast ahead of a quiet season, a model built for a raise spanning several EU jurisdictions, or the numbers behind a sale process. Others start there, add KPI design once reporting is steady, and grow into a standing monthly review. Neither path is more correct than the other; it depends on what the business needs first.
Reviewed before it reaches you
Our finance team works under contract with Northlane Solutions Inc., the US entity you sign with, with every deliverable reviewed by a senior principal first. None of this reaches into statutory accounts, VAT or tax filing, which stay with your own registration or a credentialed local partner such as a French expert-comptable or a German Steuerberater, and none of it is audit work.
Denominated the way the business actually runs
Models are built in euros from your real Xero, QuickBooks Online, Exact, Sage or SAP Business One figures, not a US template with the currency symbol swapped. Where books across entities are not yet current, bookkeeping closes them first. Pricing covers how this is scoped, and how it works covers onboarding.
All services
Virtual CFO and advisory: every service
- Fractional CFOA senior finance lead who works your numbers on a part-time basis: monthly reviews, board and investor prep, and a second opinion before a big decision.
- 13-week cash flow forecastA rolling week-by-week cash forecast that shows what is coming in, what is going out, and where the next 13 weeks get tight.
- BudgetingAn annual budget built from your real numbers, broken out by month and department, that becomes the baseline every later report is measured against.
- FP&AOngoing financial planning and analysis: budget-to-actual tracking, margin and cost analysis, and the monthly pack that explains why the numbers moved.
- Fundraising financial modelsA financial model built for a raise: historical actuals, a growth-driven forecast, and the assumptions an investor will want to pressure-test.
- Investor reportingA recurring investor update built from your actual numbers: the metrics investors expect, delivered on a schedule you can rely on.
- Pricing and unit economicsA clear read on what each customer, order or unit actually costs and earns, so pricing decisions are based on margin rather than a guess.
- KPI designA short list of the numbers that actually run your business, defined once and tracked consistently, instead of a dashboard nobody opens.
- M&A due diligence supportFinancial due diligence support for a buy-side or sell-side deal: clean data, a quality-of-earnings view, and answers ready before the buyer or their advisor asks.
- Exit readinessA review of what a buyer's diligence team will see in your books, done before you go to market, so surprises get fixed on your own timeline instead of theirs.
- Lender covenant reportingRecurring reports built to your loan agreement's exact definitions, delivered on the schedule your lender requires, so a covenant test never comes as a surprise.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Virtual CFO and advisory
Is a fractional CFO worth it for a company operating in more than one EU member state?
If pricing, hiring or expansion decisions are being made without a clear cross-entity read on cash and margin, a fractional CFO usually earns its cost back in avoided mistakes before it pays for itself in new revenue.
Do you handle our VAT or corporate tax return as part of CFO work?
No. Virtual CFO and advisory work is financial planning and analysis. VAT, OSS and IOSS filings, and local statutory accounts, are prepared for review and lodged by your own registration or a credentialed local partner.
Can you work alongside our existing accountant or local GAAP adviser?
Yes. We commonly sit alongside an existing local adviser or in-house controller, focused on forward-looking planning rather than the statutory compliance work they already own.
How is client and financial data protected?
Every deliverable is reviewed by a senior principal before it reaches you. Data-transfer safeguards are set out in our privacy policy.
How is pricing structured for advisory work?
Advisory engagements are scoped and priced up front once we understand what you need. Terms are set out in your engagement letter, and published starting ranges are on the pricing page.
What is not included in virtual CFO and advisory work?
Filing your VAT or corporate tax return, and certifying statutory accounts, stay with a credentialed local partner. Advisory work covers the forecast, the board pack and the decisions built on top of clean numbers, not the compliance filings that sit underneath them.
What software do you build advisory work inside?
We work from your existing Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage Intacct ledger, plus spreadsheet or planning-tool models for forecasts and board packs, layering advisory work on top of your bookkeeping rather than requiring a separate finance platform to run alongside it.
How is pricing structured for virtual CFO work?
Pricing is scoped by hours per month and the complexity of the entities involved, agreed as a monthly retainer rather than billed unpredictably as questions come in. The figure and scope of work are both set out in your engagement letter.
