Monthly bookkeeping

Monthly bookkeeping built around the BAS cycle

Most Australian businesses run their bookkeeping on a rhythm the tax system sets for them: a quarterly BAS due date, an annual income year that closes on 30 June, and a GST tax code sitting on every transaction from the day it is entered. Monthly bookkeeping with Finbryn follows that rhythm rather than fighting it.

Each month we categorise income and spending against your chart of accounts, code every transaction to the correct GST treatment (taxable, GST-free, input-taxed or out of scope), and reconcile every bank, card and payment-processor account to its statement. You get a profit and loss, a balance sheet and a short open-items list, in plain language, with anything unusual flagged rather than buried in a report you have to hunt through.

Because the coding happens monthly instead of being reconstructed at BAS time, the quarterly lodgement work shrinks to a review rather than a rebuild. We prepare the figures your registered agent or your own adviser needs to lodge on time, and we build the working papers so nothing has to be re-explained each quarter.

What we need from you

Read-only access to your bank feeds, receipts for card spend (through Dext or however you already capture them), and answers to the open items we log each month. If you are not yet registered for GST, we track your rolling turnover against the threshold and tell you before you are close to it, so registration is a decision you make on notice, not a surprise.

Software

We work inside Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online, in a file that stays in your name. If you have no accounting software yet, we set one up under your own subscription so you own the login and the history from day one.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Monthly bookkeeping

Do I have to switch to Xero or MYOB if I already use something else?

No. We work inside whichever of Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online you already run. If you have no file yet, we set one up in your own name.

Will this get our figures ready for the next BAS?

Yes. GST coding happens as transactions are entered each month, so the quarterly BAS working papers are a review rather than a scramble, ready for your registered agent or adviser to lodge.

Do you work inside Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online?

Yes, all three. We work inside whichever software your business already runs, rather than asking you to move platforms.

What is not included in the monthly plan?

BAS and tax return lodgement, payroll processing and tax advice are separate services, quoted on top of monthly bookkeeping. The plan covers coding, reconciliation and reports, ready for whoever handles those next steps.

How does handover work if we already use a bookkeeper part time?

We agree a start date and take on the categorisation and reconciliation work from that point, using the existing file rather than rebuilding history, so there is no gap in the monthly reports.

Do I have to switch accounting software?

No. We work inside your QuickBooks Online or Xero file. If you have no file yet, we set one up in your name so you own it from day one.

What do you need from me each month?

Read-only bank feeds, receipts for card spend, and answers to the questions we log on the open-items list.

What is included in monthly bookkeeping?

Monthly bookkeeping covers transactions sorted into categories against your chart of accounts and bank, card and payment-processor accounts reconciled to statements. The exact scope is agreed and set out in writing before work starts, so you know precisely what is and is not covered before the first deliverable arrives.

How is monthly bookkeeping priced?

Pricing for monthly bookkeeping depends on your transaction volume, the software you use, and how much cleanup is needed before ongoing work starts. Current ranges are published on the pricing page, and your exact fee is confirmed in writing before anything begins.
