Management reports
Monthly management accounts for UK companies covering profit and loss, balance sheet and cash position, packaged with a short written narrative so a director, a lender or an investor understands what moved before they have to ask, and can act on the pack as soon as it lands.

Reviewer's note
Software is up on last month after two seats were added mid-month. Revenue includes one milestone invoice that will not repeat next month.

Management accounts go beyond a trial balance export
A profit and loss and a balance sheet on their own leave the reader to work out what changed and why. We add a written narrative flagging the two or three things that actually moved the numbers that month, in language a non-accountant director can use in a meeting without translation.
What's in the pack
- Profit and loss by month with prior-period and, where you have one, budget comparison
- Balance sheet with supporting schedules for the accounts that matter most
- A cash flow summary
- Plain-English commentary on the drivers behind the movement
- Department, project or location-level splits where your chart of accounts tracks them
Separate from your statutory filing
Management accounts sit apart from the statutory accounts your accountant files at Companies House and the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC. They run monthly or quarterly on a schedule you set, and feed straight into whatever your accountant needs at year end rather than duplicating that work later.
Who actually reads them
Usually the director or finance lead first, then whoever they answer to: a bank relationship manager, an investor, a board, or a franchisor. We build the format around that reader from the first pack instead of retrofitting it once someone complains.
Where the work happens
Reports are built from the same closed books used for your month-end close, working inside Xero, QuickBooks Online or Sage, and reviewed by a senior reviewer before they reach you.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Management reports
How is this different from what our accountant files each year?
Your accountant's statutory accounts and Company Tax Return look back over the whole year, once a year. Management accounts run monthly or quarterly so you see the trend as it happens, not twelve months later.
Can reports be split by department or location?
Yes, as long as your chart of accounts or the class and location tracking in your software supports that split.
Who reviews the narrative before it reaches us?
A senior reviewer reviews every report and its written commentary before it goes out, alongside the underlying closed books.
Can the report format change if our board or lender asks for something specific?
Yes, the report structure adapts to what your board, lender or investor actually wants to see, rather than forcing every reader into one fixed template. We confirm the required format early so the report does not need reworking every time a new reader is added.
How far back does trend data go in a typical management report?
Reports typically show a trailing twelve months so seasonal patterns are visible, alongside the current month and year to date. If your business has less than a year of clean history, the trend view builds up month by month rather than showing a partial or misleading comparison.
Who actually reads these reports?
Usually the owner or CFO first, then whoever they answer to: a lender, an investor, a board or a franchisor.
Can reports be split by location or department?
Yes, as long as the chart of accounts or the class and location tracking in your software supports that split.
How is management reports priced?
Pricing for management reports depends on your transaction volume, the software you use, and how much cleanup is needed before ongoing work starts. Current ranges are published on the pricing page, and your exact fee is confirmed in writing before anything begins.
What software works with management reports?
Management reports runs inside QuickBooks Online or Xero, whichever you already use. If you are not yet set up in either, we can configure a file in your name so you keep ownership of it once the engagement is under way.
