Reconciliation across currencies and providers
A business operating across the EU often banks with more than one provider and in more than one currency. Denmark, Sweden and Poland, among others, still run their own currencies alongside the euro area. Finbryn matches every transaction to its bank, card or payment-processor line, in whichever currency the account holds, and traces any gap to a specific item rather than forcing the numbers to agree.
What gets reconciled
- Every connected bank, card and payment-processor account, on the same monthly schedule
- Outstanding payments and pending deposits tracked until they clear
- Unmatched and duplicate items investigated and resolved
- A reconciliation report per account, per period, that your registered local partner can review directly
Why this matters before a filing
VAT, OSS and statutory filings prepared by your registered local partner rely on reconciled figures. A bank balance that disagrees with the books, even by a small amount, is the kind of gap a reviewer flags before signing off, so we close it during the month rather than at deadline.
Payment processors, not only banks
A business selling online often has as much activity moving through Stripe, PayPal or a marketplace payout as through a bank account. We reconcile those the same way, tracing fees, refunds and payout timing rather than booking one lump sum and hoping it nets out correctly.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Bank and credit card reconciliation
How many accounts, and in how many currencies, can you reconcile?
As many as the business uses, including non-euro accounts in Poland, Sweden, Denmark or elsewhere, each reconciled in its own currency.
Does this cover payment processors like Stripe as well as banks?
Yes, alongside connected banks and card accounts on the same reconciliation schedule.
What happens if a transaction never clears the bank at all?
It stays flagged as an open reconciling item on the schedule until it clears or is confirmed void, rather than being written off or ignored just to make the reported balance match the bank on paper.
Can you reconcile a business account that also has personal transactions mixed in?
We can flag and separate them, but recommend keeping business and personal spending in different accounts, since mixed accounts slow reconciliation and complicate VAT recovery on the expenses that are genuinely business-related. We would rather flag this early than let it complicate a VAT review later.
How many accounts can you reconcile?
As many as the business uses. Every connected bank, card and payment-processor account is reconciled on the same schedule.
What happens when the bank balance and the books disagree?
We trace the difference to a specific transaction, timing item or bank fee and note it on the reconciliation report rather than forcing the numbers to match.
What if our records for bank and credit card reconciliation are not up to date?
If your records are behind, we scope a catch-up first so bank and credit card reconciliation starts from a clean, reconciled base. That catch-up is priced and timed separately from the ongoing engagement, so you always know what each part costs.
Who reviews the work before it reaches us?
Every deliverable under bank and credit card reconciliation is reviewed by a senior reviewer before it reaches you. You keep access to the underlying file at every stage, so nothing about the work happens somewhere you cannot see it.
