Finbryn provides IFRS 17 implementation and reporting support for US insurers and captives in IFRS groups: data checks, fulfilment cash flows, contractual service margin roll-forwards and disclosure schedules, for signature by the insurer's own actuary or another credentialed actuary it engages. Checked 2026-10-16 against the IFRS Foundation text; IFRS 17 applies from 1 January 2023.
What is included
- Contract data checks and a grouping map to portfolios and annual cohorts
- Fulfilment cash flow, risk adjustment and contractual service margin roll-forwards
- Reconciliation from US GAAP and statutory figures to the IFRS 17 balances
- Disclosure schedules in the parent's group template
- Review file organized for the signing actuary and the group auditor
The process
- 1.
Get the group's template, policy memo and calendar
Obtain the parent's reporting pack, accounting policy choices and the discount curve source before building anything.
- 2.
Check the policy and claims data
Test for issue date, portfolio, profitability and coverage fields, and return an exceptions list.
- 3.
Map contracts to portfolios, groups and cohorts
Apply paragraphs 14 to 22 and record the mapping so it can be re-performed.
- 4.
Build fulfilment cash flows, risk adjustment and margin
Calculate the cash flows, discounting and risk adjustment, and roll the contractual service margin forward.
- 5.
Reconcile to US GAAP and statutory balances
List each reconciling item and its cause, line by line.
- 6.
A credentialed actuary reviews and signs
The signer reviews the calculations and assumption documentation and signs what needs a signature; the engagement letter names the signer.
- 7.
Submit to the controller and the group auditor
Your controller submits the pack; the group auditor receives the supporting file.
