Risk-based internal audit plan and annual risk assessment
Finbryn provides a risk-based internal audit plan and annual risk assessment for CFOs and audit committee chairs starting an internal audit function, ranking the audit universe and drafting the plan the committee approves against Standard 9.4 of the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, effective for quality assessments from January 9, 2025. It gives no opinion on financial statements.
What is included
- An audit universe listing every auditable area with the reason it ranks where it does
- A documented annual risk assessment built from interviews, financial results and contract terms
- A one-year audit plan with timing, resources and a coverage map
- A reporting calendar for the audit committee, with the dates results will be presented
- A change log recording each revision to the plan and who approved it
The process
- 1.
Gather the inputs
Prior plans or letters, management accounts, contracts with covenants and the risk register are collected, and the interview list is agreed.
- 2.
Interview and score
Each leader scores impact and likelihood on the agreed scale, then the group discusses the gaps.
- 3.
Build the audit universe
Every auditable area is listed, ranked and tagged with the reason for its rank.
- 4.
Draft the plan
The top areas are scheduled against the resources the committee will fund, with a coverage map and a reporting calendar.
- 5.
Present and revise
The committee amends the plan and approves it. The change log records the version and the date.
- 6.
Refresh
The assessment is redone at least annually and the plan is updated sooner when the business changes.
