Individual income tax preparation support

Short answer

Finbryn builds the Form 1040 workpapers for owners and individuals from books our team already reconciles, including Schedule C, E and K-1 income, and hands a complete draft to a credentialed preparer for review and signature. Calendar-year 2026 returns are due April 15, 2027.

Built from your books, not a shoebox

If you already use Finbryn for bookkeeping, most of what your 1040 needs is already categorized and reconciled by year-end. We pull business income from Schedule C, rental activity from Schedule E, and K-1 amounts from any partnership or S corporation you own into one set of workpapers, then flag anything that needs your input before the draft goes to your signer.

Who signs it

A PTIN-holding preparer reviews and signs every return we prepare. For anything beyond the return itself, such as an IRS inquiry, an Enrolled Agent, CPA or attorney you authorize represents you under Circular 230. Some states, including California, Oregon, Maryland, New York and Connecticut, have their own paid-preparer registration rules, which we confirm before taking on a return there.

Key dates

Calendar-year individual returns for tax year 2026 are due April 15, 2027. An automatic six-month extension using Form 4868 moves that to October 15, 2027, though any tax owed is still due in April. We track both dates and tell you which one applies well before either arrives.

What we need from you

Prior-year return, any 1099s, K-1s or W-2s you receive outside your own books, and answers to a short list of questions on things we cannot see in your accounts, such as a home sale or a dependent change.

Where this fits

Individual preparation pairs naturally with estimated tax support so next year's payments are sized correctly, and with tax planning if a big decision, like an equity sale or a move, is coming up. See pricing for what individual preparation costs.

Questions

Frequently asked questions: Individual income tax preparation support

When is my 1040 due?

Calendar-year 2026 individual returns are due April 15, 2027, with an automatic extension to October 15, 2027 available if you need more time.

Do you handle business income on my personal return?

Yes, Schedule C for a sole proprietorship, Schedule E for rentals, and K-1 income from a partnership or S corp all feed into the same workpapers we build from your books.

Who signs my return if you prepare it?

A PTIN-holding credentialed preparer reviews and signs it. Anything beyond the return, like representing you in an IRS inquiry, goes to an EA, CPA or attorney you authorize.

Do I need to register anywhere if I live in California?

Non-exempt preparers of California returns register with CTEC; that registration sits with your signer, not with our preparation team.

What does individual income tax preparation support actually include, month to month?

Individual income tax preparation support covers income, deduction and credit workpapers built from your bookkeeping and source documents, along with schedule C, E or K-1 income organized and reconciled to your books. The work runs inside QuickBooks Online, Xero, Drake Tax or UltraTax CS, the file stays under your own subscription, and a senior principal reviews the output before it reaches you each period.

Who actually signs my return?

A credentialed tax preparer reviews and signs the return we prepare. We tell you who that is before filing season starts.

Do you handle returns with business income on them?

Yes. Sole proprietors, single-member LLC owners and partners commonly bring business income onto a personal return, and we build the supporting workpapers for it.

What is included in individual income tax preparation support?

Individual income tax preparation support covers income, deduction and credit workpapers built from your bookkeeping and source documents and schedule C, E or K-1 income organized and reconciled to your books. The exact scope is agreed and set out in writing before work starts, so you know precisely what is and is not covered before the first deliverable arrives.

How is individual income tax preparation support priced?

Pricing for individual income tax preparation support depends on your transaction volume, the software you use, and how much cleanup is needed before ongoing work starts. Current ranges are published on the pricing page, and your exact fee is confirmed in writing before anything begins.
