Built around the K-1, not just the return
An S corporation return is really a set of K-1s wrapped around one filing. We build the trial balance tie-out and book-to-tax adjustments first, then allocate income, deductions and credits across shareholders in proportion to ownership, so each K-1 is defensible on its own and consistent with the return as a whole.
Shareholder basis, tracked continuously
Basis determines whether a distribution is tax-free or taxable, and whether a loss is deductible this year or suspended. We maintain a basis schedule for each shareholder across years rather than reconstructing it from scratch at filing time, which is where most S corporation surprises come from.
The March deadline
Calendar-year S corporation returns for tax year 2026 are due March 15, 2027. That is a full month earlier than a C corporation or individual return, and we build the filing calendar around that earlier date so the K-1s reach shareholders with time to use them.
Reasonable compensation
Shareholder-employees need a reasonable salary run through payroll before profit distributions are taken. We flag this during preparation and coordinate with your payroll processor, since it is one of the more commonly scrutinized areas of an S corporation return.
Where this fits
If the election itself has not been made yet, we can prepare Form 2553 for your signer to file. Pair this with estimated tax support so shareholders are not surprised by their own personal filings. See pricing for S corporation preparation rates.
