Finance data pipelines and dashboards
Finance data pipelines and dashboards from Finbryn move a US business's data from QuickBooks, NetSuite or Stripe into a cloud warehouse through Fivetran, then surface it in Power BI or Looker Studio. Revenue, margin and cash are defined once at the warehouse level, so every dashboard shows the same number, not three different answers.

Reviewer's note
Software is up on last month after two seats were added mid-month. Revenue includes one milestone invoice that will not repeat next month.
Illustrative. An example of the document, not a client's figures.
A spreadsheet export is built to answer one question, and it answers that one question well. The trouble starts the moment someone asks a second question the export was not built for, how margin looks by product line and by month at the same time, or how a cash position tracks against a sales pipeline that lives in a different system entirely. Each new question means another export, another set of manual joins, and eventually a stack of spreadsheets nobody fully trusts because nobody can say for certain they were all built the same way.
A pipeline into a proper data warehouse changes what is answerable on demand. Source systems, QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Stripe, Shopify, or a payroll platform, sync into the warehouse on a schedule rather than getting exported by hand, and once the data is sitting in one place with a consistent structure, joining billing data to the general ledger or lining up payment timing against invoice terms is a query, not a project.
Fivetran and Airbyte both do the actual moving. Fivetran is a managed service with a broad, well-maintained connector library and a price that scales with data volume; Airbyte is more configurable and often cheaper at scale, with a wider but less uniformly polished set of connectors, including open-source ones you can adapt yourself. Neither is categorically better; the choice comes down to which specific systems need connecting, how much engineering time you have to maintain a pipeline, and budget, and we walk through that trade-off against your actual stack before recommending one.
The part that actually prevents dashboard chaos is not the pipeline, it is the metric layer sitting on top of it. The most common failure in finance reporting is not a missing chart, it is three dashboards computing revenue three different ways, one including a refund reserve and two not, one on a cash basis and two on accrual, with nobody noticing until a board member asks why the numbers do not match. Revenue, margin, cash position and any other core metric get defined once, at the warehouse level, and every dashboard downstream, whether built in Power BI, Looker Studio or Metabase, inherits that same definition instead of recalculating it independently.
Access control is part of the build, not an afterthought. A department head sees the numbers relevant to their team; a board member sees the consolidated view; nobody gets a flat export link that, once shared, effectively has no access boundary at all. And because the warehouse and dashboard workspace are set up under your own cloud account rather than a proprietary platform we control, you keep the pipeline, the data and the dashboards if the engagement with us ever changes.
What is included
A working pipeline from your accounting, billing and payment systems into a cloud warehouse, configured through Fivetran or Airbyte and scheduled to refresh on a cadence that matches how time-sensitive each source actually is. On top of that sits a defined metric layer, revenue, margin, cash position and whatever else matters to your business, built once and reused across every dashboard rather than recalculated per report. Dashboards themselves are built in Power BI, Looker Studio or Metabase depending on what fits your team, with role-based access so each viewer sees the slice of data appropriate to them.
How the process works
We start by mapping which systems actually hold the data that matters, accounting platform, billing or subscription system, payment processor, payroll, and confirming which questions the dashboards need to answer before touching any tooling. Connectors get configured and a first sync runs to validate the data looks right in the warehouse before anything is built on top of it. Metric definitions get agreed with you explicitly, in writing, before the first dashboard goes live, since a dashboard built on an undefined metric just moves the ambiguity downstream instead of resolving it.
Who this is for
SaaS and subscription businesses juggling billing data in Stripe alongside accounting data in QuickBooks or NetSuite get immediate value, since those two systems rarely agree without a real join. Ecommerce sellers combining Shopify or marketplace data with accounting records, and startups needing investor-ready reporting pulled from multiple systems on demand rather than assembled by hand before every board meeting, are also strong fits. A business running on one system with straightforward monthly reporting needs usually gets more value from standard management reports than from a dedicated pipeline.
Common problems we fix
The most common problem is multiple dashboards reporting different numbers for the same metric because each one calculates revenue or margin independently instead of pulling from one shared definition. The second is reporting that only reflects one system at a time, accounting numbers in one tab and billing numbers in another, with someone manually reconciling the two before a board meeting. The third is a dashboard nobody can maintain because it was built by a contractor who left, using tooling nobody in-house understands; we build under your own account with documentation specifically so that risk does not repeat. The fourth is a flat, unrestricted export link standing in for real access control, exposing full financial detail to anyone with the link.
Software and integrations
Pipelines run through Fivetran or Airbyte, chosen based on connector fit and budget, into a warehouse most commonly BigQuery, Snowflake or Postgres, sized to your data volume. Dashboard tooling is Power BI, Looker Studio or Metabase, selected based on your team's existing familiarity and licensing, since forcing a new BI tool on a team that already knows another one adds friction without adding value. Source connectors most often used are QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Stripe, Shopify and common payroll platforms.
What it costs
Setup is scoped by the number of source systems and the complexity of the metric definitions needed, and is priced and published on our pricing page rather than quoted as a single flat number that ignores how different a two-system pipeline is from a six-system one. Ongoing costs include the Fivetran or Airbyte subscription itself, which scales with data volume and is billed directly to your own account, plus our time for maintenance if that stays part of the engagement.
How we measure quality
The core measure is whether every dashboard viewing the same metric, revenue, margin, cash, shows the same number, checked explicitly during setup and spot-checked afterward. Pipeline reliability is tracked by sync success rate and how quickly a broken connector gets flagged and fixed, since a silently stale dashboard is worse than one that is visibly down. Access is reviewed periodically to confirm each viewer still sees only what their current role should show.
Ownership and what happens if the engagement changes
The warehouse, the pipeline configuration and the dashboard workspace are all set up under your own cloud accounts, Fivetran or Airbyte, the warehouse provider, and the BI tool, rather than a platform we host and control. That means if the engagement with us ever ends or changes scope, you keep the infrastructure, the historical data and the dashboards exactly as built, with documentation handed over so your own team or a future provider can pick up maintenance without starting over.
How we work
The process
- 1
System and question mapping
We identify which source systems hold the relevant data and confirm the specific questions the dashboards need to answer before selecting tooling.
- 2
Connector setup
Fivetran or Airbyte is configured for your source systems and a validation sync confirms the data lands correctly in the warehouse.
- 3
Metric definition
Revenue, margin, cash position and other core metrics are defined once, in writing, agreed with you before any dashboard is built on top of them.
- 4
Dashboard build
Dashboards are built in Power BI, Looker Studio or Metabase against the shared metric layer, not recalculated independently per report.
- 5
Access configuration
Role-based access is set so department heads, executives and board members each see the slice of data appropriate to their role.
- 6
Handover and documentation
Pipeline configuration, metric definitions and dashboard structure are documented so your own team retains full visibility into how everything is built.

Common problems we fix
The problem
How we fix it
- Multiple dashboards report different numbers for the same metricRevenue, margin and cash are defined once at the warehouse level, and every dashboard draws from that single definition instead of calculating it separately.
- Billing data and accounting data never get reconciled without manual workBoth systems sync into one warehouse on a schedule, so billing and general ledger data can be joined directly instead of reconciled by hand before every report.
- A dashboard nobody in-house can maintain after the person who built it leavesPipelines and dashboards are built under your own account with documentation handed over, so maintenance does not depend on one person or one outside contractor.
- Sensitive financial detail exposed through an unrestricted export linkRole-based access replaces flat export links, so each viewer sees only the data their role is meant to see.
Pricing
Pipeline and dashboard setup is scoped by the number of source systems to connect and the complexity of the metric definitions needed, published on our pricing page. Ongoing Fivetran or Airbyte subscription costs scale with data volume and bill directly to your own account rather than being marked up through us; our time for ongoing maintenance, if that stays part of the engagement, is scoped separately.

Glossary
- Data warehouse
- A cloud database, such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Postgres, built to hold and combine data from multiple source systems for reporting.
- Connector
- A pre-built integration that syncs data from a specific source system, like QuickBooks or Stripe, into a warehouse on a schedule.
- Metric layer
- A single, shared definition of a business metric, like revenue or margin, that every downstream dashboard or report pulls from.
- Role-based access
- A permissions setup where each user sees only the data appropriate to their role, rather than one flat level of access for everyone.
- Refresh cadence
- How often a pipeline pulls new data from a source system, ranging from near real time to a daily or weekly schedule.
Questions
Frequently asked questions: Finance data pipelines and dashboards
Which warehouse do you recommend?
Most often BigQuery, Snowflake or Postgres, chosen based on your data volume, existing cloud provider relationships and budget rather than a single default we push regardless of fit.
Fivetran or Airbyte, which is better?
Neither is categorically better. Fivetran is a fully managed service with a broad connector library and a price that scales with volume. Airbyte is more configurable and often cheaper at scale, with a wider but less uniformly polished connector set. The choice depends on which systems you need connected and how much you want to manage yourself.
Can this combine accounting data with billing or payment data on one dashboard?
Yes, that is the primary reason to build a pipeline instead of relying on exports: it joins general ledger, billing and payment data on one timeline inside the warehouse, not stitched together by hand afterward.
How often does the data refresh?
On a schedule matched to how time-sensitive each source is, commonly more frequent for cash and payment data and daily for close-related accounting data, tuned during setup and adjustable afterward.
Do we own the pipeline and dashboards, or do you?
You do. The warehouse, the Fivetran or Airbyte account and the dashboard workspace are all set up under your own cloud accounts, so you retain full access and control regardless of how the engagement with us evolves.
How long does setup typically take?
It depends on how many source systems need connecting and how complex the metric definitions are, but most pipelines and an initial dashboard set are live within a few weeks of kickoff.
What happens if a connector breaks or a sync fails?
Sync failures are monitored and flagged, and we fix the connector issue as part of ongoing maintenance if that is part of your engagement, rather than letting a dashboard quietly go stale without anyone noticing.
Do we own the warehouse and dashboards?
Yes. The warehouse and dashboard workspace are set up under your own account, so you keep access if the engagement ever ends.
Can dashboards combine accounting data with billing or payment data?
Yes, that is the main reason to build a pipeline instead of exporting spreadsheets: it joins general ledger, billing and payment data on one timeline.
